The Martinsville spring race began with Kyle Larson taking his pole position all the way to a stage 1 win. After stage one Denny Hamlin, Chase Elliott, and Joey Logano exchanged the races top position as they displayed their strength on short tracks.

Once William Byron took the lead during the last stage and rode his lead all the way to the win. It was looking like Byron was going to cruise to his victory until a John Hunter Nemechek wreck with four laps left threw a caution to create some late race drama. Byron ultimately held off Larson during overtime to capture his 3rd win of the season and continue his impressive young cup series career.

Denny Hamlin and his team took a big risk during overtime being one of the few cars to pit during overtime. This decision led the 11 team from 4th place to 10th place but put them on fresh tires. The risk ended up not paying off as Denny finished 11th.

Hendrick Motorsports ends up finishing 1, 2, 3 as they celebrated their 40th anniversary in the Cup Series.
